Unlike quantitative observations which involve numbers and units, qualitative observations focus on non-numerical attributes. For instance, noting that a leaf is 'green and smooth' or that a chemical reaction 'produced a gas with a pungent smell' are qualitative. They are crucial for initial data collection and forming hypotheses.
Role in Scientific Inquiry
Qualitative observations often serve as the starting point for scientific investigations. Advantages and Limitations
