What Is Decantation?
Decantation is a physical process used to separate mixtures of immiscible liquids or a liquid from an insoluble solid. The method involves carefully pouring the top layer of liquid, known as the supernatant, into another container without disturbing the sediment or the lower liquid layer.

The core principle behind decantation is density difference. In a solid-liquid mixture, gravity causes the denser, insoluble solid particles to settle at the bottom over time, forming a sediment.
