A Practical Example
Consider a situation where 15 grams of sugar (the solute) are completely dissolved in 135 grams of water (the solvent). The total mass of the resulting sugar solution would be 15 g + 135 g = 150 grams. Using the formula, the mass percent of sugar is (15 g sugar / 150 g solution) × 100% = 10%. This means sugar accounts for 10% of the solution's total mass.
