Defining Latitude and Longitude
Latitude and longitude are two coordinates that specify the position of any location on Earth. Latitude lines, called parallels, run horizontally (east-west) and measure distance north or south of the Equator. Longitude lines, called meridians, run vertically (north-south) and measure distance east or west of the Prime Meridian.
