The Core Distinction: Spin vs. Orbit
The main difference between rotation and revolution is the center of movement. Rotation is the act of an object spinning on its own internal axis. Revolution is the movement of an object in a path, or orbit, around an external point or another object.
An Everyday Example: The Earth
The Earth provides a perfect example of both motions. The Earth rotates on its axis once every 24 hours, causing day and night. Simultaneously, the Earth revolves around the Sun, completing one full orbit every 365.25 days, which defines our year.
